Netherlands Halts Lebanese Returns Amid Security Concerns
(MENAFN) The Netherlands has suspended the return of Lebanese asylum seekers, citing concerns over a “fragile security situation” in Lebanon, according to reports on Monday.
According to reports, Dutch broadcaster said the decision was announced by Asylum Minister Marjolein van den Brink, who stated that current conditions in Lebanon do not allow for safe repatriations.
She confirmed that no decisions will be made on Lebanese asylum applications for the next six months and that deportations will also be paused during this period.
According to reports, the suspension could be extended for an additional six months depending on how the situation develops, with authorities continuing to monitor conditions in Lebanon closely.
The minister added that the measure will not apply to individuals suspected of war crimes, who may still be returned on security grounds.
Cases involving Lebanese nationals processed under EU asylum rules in other member states will continue to follow existing procedures, according to the ministry.
