Trump Welcomes Pause in Iran Talks, Says Silence Could Help
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump said Monday that a temporary pause in communication with Iran could be beneficial, amid reports that Tehran has suspended indirect negotiations with Washington.
According to reports, Trump told a media outlet that he believes too much dialogue has taken place and that a break in talks may be preferable at this stage.
“I think we've been talking too much, if you want to know the truth. I think going silent would be very good,” Trump said.
He added that a pause in negotiations would not necessarily indicate an immediate escalation, while also stating that the US would maintain its existing pressure measures, which he described as a “piece of steel.”
Trump also said the US could wait “as long as they want,” arguing that Iran is suffering significant financial losses under current restrictions.
According to reports, his remarks came after media reports that Iran suspended indirect exchanges with the United States through mediators, in response to ongoing Israeli military actions in Lebanon.
Iranian sources cited in those reports said negotiations would remain on hold until its conditions regarding Gaza and Lebanon are addressed, including calls for a halt to Israeli operations.
