China, US Boost Military Dialogue to Reduce Risk of Miscalculation

(MENAFN) China has highlighted renewed military dialogue with the United States aimed at preventing misunderstandings and avoiding potential miscalculation, following recent high-level political engagement between the two countries.

According to reports, the renewed contacts come after a summit between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump in Beijing last month, which focused on stabilizing bilateral relations and improving communication channels.

A working group under the Military Maritime Consultative Agreement reportedly met for two days in Hawaii last week, as noted by an official Chinese military social media platform.

According to reports, the discussions covered maritime and air safety issues, with both sides exchanging views on current security conditions and reviewing existing rules governing military encounters at sea and in the air.

The statement said the talks were conducted in a candid and constructive manner, focusing on improving mechanisms to reduce risks and strengthen operational safety between the two militaries.

According to reports, the dialogue forms part of broader efforts to implement understandings reached at the leaders’ summit and to maintain stable communication channels between the two armed forces.
