US Pushes Lebanon Ceasefire as Talks Intensify
(MENAFN) Lebanon has received a U.S. commitment aimed at securing a ceasefire in Beirut, while diplomatic efforts continue to expand the truce to cover the entire country, according to a senior Lebanese official who spoke to media on Monday.
The official said, “We received a promise from the US side of a ceasefire in Beirut, which may possibly cover all of Lebanon.”
He indicated that negotiations are ongoing as Lebanese leaders seek broader guarantees to reduce tensions and stabilize the security situation across the country.
According to the official, President Joseph Aoun, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam are engaged in intensive communications with U.S. officials to reinforce and formalize a ceasefire arrangement with Israel.
The diplomatic push comes amid continued efforts to prevent further escalation and secure a wider agreement that could extend beyond Beirut to all Lebanese territory.
