'Hard To Trust Taliban': Khawaja Asif Cites Lack Of Action On TTP
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that the Afghan Taliban cannot be trusted at this time because, on one hand, they assure Pakistan that they will act against the TTP, but on the other hand, no practical steps are visible.
Speaking to a private television channel, Khawaja Asif said that there has so far been no clear reduction in the Afghan Taliban's support for the banned TTP.
According to him, Taliban officials verbally state during meetings that they will restrain the TTP, but they avoid providing any written assurances.

The defence minister said that if the Taliban have genuinely changed their position, such a shift should be announced formally by the Afghan leadership rather than through media reports.
Khawaja Asif further stated that a trilateral written agreement had also been signed between Pakistan, Afghanistan and United Arab Emirates, but none of its provisions have been implemented. He added that under such circumstances, it is difficult to place trust in the Afghan Taliban.
