Iran Restores Gas Output at South Pars Platforms After Wartime Disruptions
(MENAFN) Iran has restored gas production at three offshore platforms in the South Pars gas field after operations were interrupted by damage to onshore processing facilities during recent hostilities, according to reports.
Touraj Dehqani, head of the Pars Oil and Gas Company, said efforts to recover production and processing capacity at the massive gas field are advancing steadily despite the challenges created by the conflict.
“The recovery of rich gas production and processing capacity in this shared field is moving forward in a favorable manner,” Dehqani said, crediting the progress to “the technical capabilities of oil industry specialists, integrated production management, and maximum use of existing capacities.”
He added that “Three offshore South Pars platforms have so far returned to the production cycle.”
According to Dehqani, several offshore facilities connected to refineries affected by the conflict were forced to halt production even though the platforms themselves remained fully functional.
“In spite of their full operational readiness and without any damage to the offshore facilities themselves, production had to be stopped because there was no possibility of receiving and processing the produced gas onshore,” he said.
South Pars, a vast natural gas field jointly shared by Iran and Qatar, is considered the largest gas field in the world and supplies the majority of Iran's natural gas output. Reports indicate that operations in parts of the field were disrupted after strikes targeted energy infrastructure in the Assaluyeh area earlier this year.
The resumption of production at the three platforms marks another step in Iran's efforts to restore energy operations and recover capacity following the wartime interruptions.
