Hezbollah Widens Attacks into N. Israel Amid Ongoing Lebanon Fighting
(MENAFN) Hezbollah broadened the scope of its operations against Israel on Sunday, launching attacks deeper into northern areas of the country while Israeli forces continued military actions in southern Lebanon despite an existing truce, according to reports.
The Lebanese group said it carried out a drone strike against a gathering of Israeli soldiers at a helicopter landing site in the Shlomi settlement, using what it described as a suicide drone.
According to statements issued by Hezbollah, its fighters also launched rocket attacks against Israeli military positions in Nahariya and the Krayot region north of Haifa. The group said the operations were conducted "in defense of the Lebanese people" amid Israel's ongoing military campaign.
Israeli military officials reported detecting an explosives-laden drone as well as multiple rockets fired from Lebanese territory. Warning sirens were activated in several northern communities, including Kiryat Shmona, Kfar Giladi, Tel Hai, and Metula, following the attacks.
The army stated that two rockets crossing into Israeli territory were intercepted by air defense systems.
Reports also indicated that warning sirens were heard in Acre and the Krayot area near Haifa, highlighting what officials described as an expansion in the geographic reach of Hezbollah's operations.
According to reports, five rockets were launched toward Nahariya and nearby locations in northern Israel. Most of the projectiles were reportedly intercepted, and no casualties were immediately reported.
The latest exchanges reflect renewed tensions along the Israel-Lebanon frontier, where both sides have continued military activity despite efforts to maintain a fragile ceasefire.
