Trump Criticizes Chicago Mayor While Reiterating Stance on Iran

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump sharply criticized Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson on Saturday, while also restating his position that Iran must not obtain a nuclear weapon, according to reports.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote: “Someone should explain to the Pope that the Mayor of Chicago is useless, and that Iran cannot have a Nuclear Weapon,”

The remarks came a day after Johnson shared photographs from a meeting with Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican. The Chicago mayor described the encounter as a meaningful experience and praised the pontiff in a post on social media.

Reflecting on the visit, Johnson wrote: “it was an honor to share time with a magnificent human.”

He also said: “Joining our Chicago faith community and His Holiness, Pope Leo XIV, for a multi-faith prayer at the Vatican, yesterday, was one of the most awe-inspiring and humbling experiences of my life,”

Trump’s comments combined criticism of the mayor with his longstanding position on Iran’s nuclear program, which he has repeatedly argued should not be allowed to advance toward the development of nuclear weapons.
