EAEU Trade Projected to Surpass $100B in 2026, Tokayev Says
(MENAFN) According to reports, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated that trade within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is expected to exceed $100 billion this year, highlighting continued economic growth among member states.
Speaking at the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council summit in Astana, Tokayev said internal trade within the bloc reached more than $95 billion in 2025 despite global economic instability. He added that the EAEU is projected to record growth of over 6% this year, which would push total trade beyond the $100 billion threshold.
Tokayev also noted that the union’s combined GDP is expected to grow by approximately 2.5% in the 2026–2027 period, according to reports.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, also addressing the summit, said the EAEU is drawing increasing international interest from countries and regional organizations seeking closer economic cooperation. He cited interest from groups such as the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and ASEAN, according to reports.
Putin also highlighted progress in trade liberalization talks between the EAEU and India, along with existing agreements signed with countries including Mongolia, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, meanwhile, urged member states to accelerate implementation of the union’s economic development strategy, stressing the need to avoid delays and excuses. He said the bloc was created specifically to address and overcome economic risks and external pressures, according to reports.
