Lebanon Urges Immediate Halt to Strikes on Historic Tyre Amid Escalation
(MENAFN) Lebanon has expressed strong concern over ongoing strikes on the ancient city of Tyre in southern Lebanon, calling for an immediate end to the attacks as damage to historic areas intensifies, according to official statements reported from Beirut.
Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Raggi said the country is following developments in Tyre with “deep pain and profound concern,” as strikes continue to affect one of the region’s oldest continuously inhabited cities.
He warned that the attacks have hit “historic old neighborhoods, churches, mosques, and cultural landmarks that have stood resilient for thousands of years.”
In response, he said he has initiated a series of diplomatic contacts aimed at pressing for an immediate halt to the strikes. According to his statement, these efforts are intended to defend what he described as a shared civilizational heritage that holds significance not only for Lebanon but for global cultural history.
The remarks come amid a reported escalation of Israeli military activity in southern Lebanon, particularly in and around Tyre, a city widely known for its archaeological and historical importance.
