*Netanyahu Holds Security Talks as Tensions Rise Along Northern Front

(MENAFN) According to reports, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to convene an urgent security meeting with senior defense officials to review developments in northern Israel amid escalating tensions linked to military activity in southern Lebanon.

Channel 13 reported that the meeting includes Defense Minister Israel Katz, Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, and senior commanders responsible for the northern sector. The assessment reportedly follows concerns over recent cross-border fire and shifting dynamics along the front.

The report claimed that Israeli military officials were taken aback by the intensity of rocket fire and what was described as Hezbollah’s adjustment of its firing approach in response to expanded Israeli ground operations in southern Lebanon.

It also stated that dozens of rockets were launched from Lebanon toward northern Israel on Saturday. For the first time since the ceasefire took effect on April 17, some of these projectiles reportedly reached Safed and Nahariya, marking a notable escalation in range.

The situation in the north was described in the report as highly unstable, with claims of disorder and concern over the government’s response.

In parallel developments, Israeli Army Radio reported that sirens have been activated over 1,000 times in northern areas since the beginning of the fragile ceasefire arrangement.

Hezbollah, meanwhile, said it carried out drone strikes targeting Israeli forces near Natua settlement and a military site in the Galilee Forest area in northern Israel.

According to reports, drone activity from Hezbollah has become an increasing concern for Israeli authorities in recent weeks, with Netanyahu previously referring to it as a “major threat” due to challenges in detection and interception.

Despite the ceasefire framework extended through US mediation, Israeli strikes on Lebanon have reportedly continued. Lebanese authorities say the ongoing conflict since March 2 has resulted in more than 3,371 deaths, according to official figures.
