Oman Reports Suspected Naval Mine Detected Near Strait of Hormuz Waters
(MENAFN) Oman’s Maritime Security Center said Saturday that a suspected naval mine was detected west of the inshore traffic zone in the Strait of Hormuz within Omani territorial waters.
In a statement posted on the social media platform X, the center urged “all seafarers, fishermen, and vessels to exercise the utmost caution while navigating, to stay away from any suspicious objects, and to report them immediately to the relevant authorities.”
Authorities did not provide additional details about the origin of the object, but the warning comes amid continued instability in the region’s maritime corridors.
According to reports, tensions have risen following military strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran earlier this year, which triggered retaliatory attacks from Tehran targeting Israeli territory and US-aligned partners in the Gulf region, as well as disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
A ceasefire reportedly came into effect on April 8 through mediation involving Pakistan and was later extended indefinitely by President Donald Trump, according to reports.
