Nina Wilén

Nina Wilén is the Director for the Africa Programme at Egmont Institute for International Relations and Associate Professor in Political Science at Lund University. Dr Wilén is the author of numerous articles on military interventions, peacekeeping and security force assistance, and has written the book Justifying Interventions in Burundi, Liberia and the DRC: (De)Stabilizing Sovereignty (Palgrave 2012) and African Peacekeeping with Jonathan Fisher (Cambridge University Press, 2022).
She is a Global Fellow at the Peace Research Institute in Oslo (PRIO) and a member of the Folke Bernadotte Academy's Research Groups on SSR. Dr Wilén has been a visiting scholar at Stellenbosch University in South Africa and is a Scientific Collaborator at Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). Up until January 2024, she was the Editor in Chief of the academic journal International Peacekeeping. She teaches at the Military Academy in Belgium and actively contributes to policy discussions and strategy writing on defense and security issues.
