Putin Vows Retaliation After Deadly Strike on Starobelsk School Dorm
(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin has pledged a response following a Ukrainian drone strike on a school dormitory in the town of Starobelsk in the Lugansk region, according to reports.
Putin stated that casualties included both fatalities and injuries, with additional individuals still unaccounted for following the attack. He claimed that multiple drones were used in successive waves targeting the same site, arguing that the location contained no military infrastructure and suggesting the strike was intentional.
The Russian president described the incident as a “terrorist attack by the neo-Nazi regime” and said that military authorities have been instructed to prepare proposals for retaliatory measures. He also directed the Foreign Ministry to inform international organizations and global partners about the situation, indicating that diplomatic messaging alone would not be sufficient.
The targeted facility was identified as a professional college housing students aged 14 to 18. Regional officials reported that dozens of students were present in the dormitory at the time of the strike.
Emergency operations were briefly interrupted due to concerns about potential follow-up attacks, according to rescue services, complicating efforts to search for survivors and secure the area.
Authorities continue to assess the full extent of casualties and damage as recovery operations proceed.
