Jordan Pushes Ahead with Media Reform, Digital Modernisation
(MENAFN) According to reports, Jordan’s Minister of Government Communication Mohammad Momani stated that work is continuing to reinforce media independence while simultaneously updating relevant laws and expanding both digital infrastructure and institutional capabilities within the sector.
In comments marking the 80th anniversary of the Kingdom’s independence, he offered congratulations to Abdullah II of Jordan, Hussein, Crown Prince of Jordan, and the Jordanian public, describing the occasion as a reflection of broader national development, including progress in the media field.
He emphasized that the leadership has consistently prioritised the media sector and supported citizens’ ability to express themselves through various channels, framing this as part of sustained official backing for media institutions and their societal role.
According to reports, he also stressed that media organisations in Jordan continue to operate with institutional independence, arguing that this has contributed positively to the overall environment for both state-affiliated and private media outlets.
He further pointed to ongoing legislative updates designed to modernise the sector, which he said have helped increase both the number and variety of licensed media organisations operating in the country.
In addition, he noted that improvements in international media freedom rankings reflect continued national efforts to strengthen the sector’s autonomy and resilience.
The minister also highlighted initiatives focused on developing professional skills within media institutions across public and private sectors, alongside broader efforts to advance digitisation, including in print journalism and major media platforms.
Finally, according to reports, he referred to collaborative programmes led by the Ministry of Government Communication with other institutions, particularly projects aimed at improving media and information literacy to help counter misinformation and disinformation.
