FAO, German Jordanian University Explore Climate Education Partnership

(MENAFN) According to reports, the Food and Agriculture Organization and German Jordanian University held discussions on expanding cooperation related to academic curriculum development and incorporating sustainability and climate adaptation concepts into educational programmes.

The talks focused on preparing future professionals with the expertise needed to respond to emerging environmental and climate-related challenges.

During the meeting, university president Ala’ Al-Halhouli met with an FAO delegation alongside senior university officials, including representatives from the School of Sustainable Engineering and Built Environment and the scientific research department, to examine potential areas for collaboration.

The FAO delegation included specialists and consultants working in policy, education, curriculum development, and climate change.

According to reports, the visit was organised as part of the “Building Resilience to Cope with Climate Change in Jordan through Improving Water Use Efficiency in the Agriculture Sector (BRCCJ)” initiative. The programme is being implemented by the FAO with backing from the Green Climate Fund in cooperation with the Jordanian government and the United Nations Development Programme.

The project focuses on governorates located within the Dead Sea Basin, including Madaba, Karak, Tafileh, and Ma'an.

Its broader objective is to improve resilience to climate change by increasing water-use efficiency in agriculture, strengthening food security and livelihoods, and embedding climate adaptation principles into institutions, policies, private-sector activities, and civil society initiatives.

During the discussions, both parties reviewed findings from an assessment of the university’s engineering programmes, which reportedly showed substantial integration of sustainability, environmental engineering, water management, and energy-related subjects within existing curricula.

The meeting also examined opportunities to further update academic content in ways that better prepare students and graduates for future climate and sustainable development challenges.

According to reports, Al-Halhouli stressed that the university remains committed to expanding sustainability and climate action initiatives within its educational and research frameworks, highlighting a continued emphasis on innovation and applied learning connected to current environmental and developmental priorities.
