Tunisia Sends Back Migrants to Their Countries of Origin
(MENAFN) Tunisia has voluntarily returned more than 4,000 irregular migrants to their countries of origin since July 2025, according to reports.
A spokesman for the Tunisian National Guard said the large-scale operation, which mainly targets undocumented migrants from sub-Saharan Africa, was carried out under instructions from the country’s leadership.
The remarks were made during a ceremony marking the departure of another voluntary repatriation flight from Tunis-Carthage International Airport, which transported 243 Ivorian migrants back to Côte d’Ivoire.
The program, organized by the Ministry of the Interior in coordination with the Tunisian Red Crescent, allows migrants who choose to return voluntarily to be processed and assisted through official channels.
Authorities said participants are gathered from various urban areas and transported by bus to a central reception facility, before being repatriated gradually on scheduled flights to their home countries.
