Cargo Train Derails in Pakistan After Explosion, Leaving Dozens Injured

(MENAFN) At least 27 people were injured after a powerful explosion struck railway tracks and derailed a cargo train in southwestern Pakistan on Sunday, according to officials and local reports.

The incident took place in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, where the train was reportedly heading toward the city’s cantonment area when the blast occurred, according to reports.

Following the explosion, gunfire was also reported in the surrounding area, prompting authorities to declare an emergency in several hospitals across the city as emergency response teams rushed to treat the wounded.

Babar Yousafzai said security forces and rescue teams were deployed to the site as investigations began into the nature of the explosion.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Balochistan, a resource-rich province and a key corridor in the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor, has long faced instability linked to separatist militancy and recurring security incidents.
