US Lawmakers Call to Lift Cuba Oil Restrictions Amid Humanitarian Crisis
(MENAFN) The Congressional Black Caucus has urged the US administration to lift restrictions on oil shipments to Cuba, warning that current policy is worsening a humanitarian crisis on the island.
In a letter led by Caucus Chairwoman Yvette D. Clarke, lawmakers called on President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio to end restrictions they say are contributing to shortages of food, fuel, and essential goods.
The letter argues that US sanctions and energy-related restrictions have had severe humanitarian consequences, including rising infant mortality and worsening food insecurity, with ordinary civilians bearing the brunt of the impact.
Clarke said that conditions inside Cuba have deteriorated significantly, citing data suggesting a sharp increase in infant mortality rates in recent years.
The caucus described the situation as a deepening humanitarian emergency and called for a shift in US policy toward prioritizing civilian welfare and access to essential resources.
