German Activists Allege Mistreatment After Gaza Flotilla Detention

(MENAFN) Two German activists involved in a Gaza-bound aid flotilla have accused Israeli forces of mistreatment and torture after returning to Germany on Saturday.

Global Sumud Flotilla supporters gathered at Hannover Airport in Langenhagen, where activists Nesrin Zeaiter and Uwe Sander were welcomed with chants of “free Palestine.”

Zeaiter said she and other activists were subjected to severe treatment during detention, claiming she was blindfolded from the moment of arrest and had her hands bound.

Sander described a separate incident in which the vessel carrying aid supplies was reportedly intercepted at sea, saying the boat was struck with rubber bullets before Israeli forces boarded it and detained passengers.

He further stated that the ship and its occupants were taken after armed personnel boarded the vessel in international waters, during which he claims he was beaten.

According to the Global Sumud Flotilla organization, the vessel was intercepted by Israeli naval forces earlier this week while en route to deliver humanitarian aid.

The group’s German branch also alleged that activists faced abuse and violence following their arrest, while the German Foreign Ministry confirmed that several German nationals were injured during the incident.

Israeli authorities have not issued a detailed response to the specific allegations described by the activists.
