Sudanese Groups Propose Renewable Three-Month Ceasefire Plan
(MENAFN) Sudanese civil and political forces have put forward a proposal calling for a renewable three-month ceasefire in Sudan, to be overseen by local, regional, and international monitoring mechanisms, according to a Saturday statement.
The initiative emerged during a two-day meeting in Nairobi held under the framework of the “Sudanese Declaration of Principles Forces for Building a New Homeland,” which brought together political actors, civil groups, and armed movements.
Among the participants were the “Sumud” democratic civil alliance of revolutionary forces led by former Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, as well as the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army led by Abdul Wahid al-Nur.
The coalition said discussions centered on a political roadmap titled “A Temporary Ceasefire and Arrangements for Ending the War,” presented as part of broader efforts to halt the conflict and establish a lasting peace framework.
The proposal outlines a temporary truce lasting three months, with the possibility of renewal, and calls for structured oversight involving local, regional, and international bodies to ensure compliance and support implementation of the agreement.
