Pakistan Says US–Iran Talks Show Progress Toward Possible Final Deal

(MENAFN) Pakistan said Saturday that there has been “encouraging progress” toward a “final understanding” between the United States and Iran aimed at ending the ongoing conflict, according to a statement from the Pakistani army.

The announcement followed a day-long visit to Tehran by Asim Munir, who has been leading Islamabad’s mediation efforts between the two sides.

According to the statement, intensive discussions over the past 24 hours produced what it described as positive movement toward reaching a final agreement, while emphasizing that negotiations remain ongoing.

During his visit, Munir held meetings with senior Iranian officials, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, as part of efforts focused on de-escalation and continued diplomatic engagement.

The Pakistani statement said the talks aimed to accelerate consultation processes designed to support regional stability and move toward a conclusive settlement, adding that discussions were held in a constructive atmosphere that contributed meaningfully to mediation efforts.

The update comes after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also said earlier that “some progress” had been made in parallel negotiations aimed at resolving the wider Middle East conflict.
