IDF Launch Strikes on Hezbollah Sites in Lebanon
(MENAFN) The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced Saturday it conducted overnight strikes against Hezbollah military targets across two locations in Lebanon, raising fresh tensions just weeks into a fragile truce.
In an official statement, the IDF said its forces targeted a Hezbollah-operated underground compound in the Beqaa Valley in eastern Lebanon, alleging the facility was actively used to manufacture weapons intended for use against Israeli civilians and military personnel.
A second strike hit Hezbollah infrastructure in the southwestern city of Tyre, which Israeli military officials allege serves as a base for planning and executing attacks on IDF troops.
The military said it took precautionary measures ahead of both operations to limit civilian casualties, including advance warnings, the deployment of precision-guided munitions, and pre-strike aerial surveillance.
The strikes come despite a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon that came into force at midnight on April 17 — an agreement that has shown early signs of strain on both sides. While Israel has pressed ahead with military operations in Lebanese territory, Hezbollah has also launched retaliatory strikes targeting northern Israel and IDF positions in southern Lebanon.
No group has claimed immediate responsibility for ceasefire violations, and no casualty figures were immediately available.
