Qatar Delegation, Pakistan Lead Mediation Efforts in Tehran
(MENAFN) A Qatari delegation is currently holding talks in Tehran with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in an effort to bring the war to an end, as mediation continues through Pakistani channels, according to a semi-official news outlet on Friday.
The delegation is engaged in discussions with Iran’s top diplomat in the Iranian capital aimed at resolving the conflict, which reportedly started on Feb. 28 following military strikes on Iran carried out by Israel and the United States, as reported by the media outlet, which cited Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei. The outlet also emphasized that "The mediator between the US and Iran remains the Pakistani side," as noted by the media outlet.
In parallel diplomatic developments, Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, arrived in Tehran early Friday as part of continuing efforts to facilitate an end to the hostilities, according to a statement issued by the Pakistan Army.
Upon his arrival, he was welcomed by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, the statement confirmed. It also added that "Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was also present at the reception," highlighting the official nature of the visit.
This marks Munir’s second trip to Tehran in the context of Pakistan’s mediation initiative aimed at de-escalating the war. During his visit, Pakistani sources indicated that he is expected to hold discussions on Iran–US negotiations, regional stability, peace efforts, and other "important issues," although no details were provided regarding the length of his stay.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has already been in Tehran for the past two days, participating in indirect discussions between the United States and Iran as part of broader diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions.
