Morocco Residential Building Collapse Death Toll Hits 15

(MENAFN) The death toll from the sudden collapse of a multi-story residential building in the northern Moroccan city of Fez climbed to 15 on Friday, with five additional people reported injured, according to local officials.

"The number of victims in the city due to the collapse of a residential building has risen to 15 dead and five injured," an official in Fez told media.

The official confirmed that the five-story structure, situated in the Jnan Jroudi neighborhood of the Ain Naqbi district, suffered a total collapse.

A correspondent at the scene reported that rescue operations have since been concluded following the sudden failure of the building, which triggered widespread panic among residents of neighboring structures. Authorities have evacuated four adjacent buildings and launched a formal investigation into the cause of the collapse.

No information regarding the cause has been made publicly available, and officials have not issued any explanatory statement. Congo's state broadcaster had reported Thursday that the death toll had reached 11 earlier in the week.
