Lavrov Hails Russia–China Partnership as Global Stabilizing Force

(MENAFN) Russia’s foreign minister has highlighted the growing strategic alignment between Moscow and Beijing, describing their partnership as a source of stability in an increasingly unsettled global environment.

Speaking in an interview with a Shanghai-based media outlet during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s two-day visit to China, which began on Tuesday evening, Sergey Lavrov portrayed bilateral relations as highly durable and steadily expanding.

He said the cooperation between the two countries is grounded in shared respect, economic interdependence, and acknowledgment of each side’s sovereignty, adding that the relationship rests on what he called “a very solid material foundation.”

Lavrov pointed to sustained trade growth, stating that economic exchanges between Russia and China have remained above $200 billion for several consecutive years. He also emphasized that energy remains the core pillar of their cooperation.

“Russia is the leading supplier of pipeline natural gas to the People’s Republic of China. We are among the main suppliers of liquefied natural gas and coal. We recently reached a final agreement on the construction of the major gas pipeline, Power of Siberia 2. The Far Eastern Route is also being discussed,” he said.
