Poland Seeks Justice Over Gaza Flotilla Detainees
(MENAFN) Poland has called for accountability and “justice” after concerns were raised over the treatment of Polish nationals detained during an attempt to reach Gaza by sea, following the circulation of footage linked to their detention by Israeli forces.
Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said Poland expects a response over how its citizens were treated, after material appeared online showing detained activists in custody. He voiced strong objections in a message posted on social media, emphasizing that such conduct is unacceptable toward individuals who have not committed any crime.
“You may not treat Polish citizens who have committed no crime in this way,” Sikorski said in a post on the US social media company X.
He also stressed broader democratic principles regarding the treatment of detainees, stating: “In the democratic world we do not abuse and gloat over people in custody,” he added.
Sikorski further demanded accountability and consequences, saying: “We demand justice for our citizens and consequences for you,” Sikorski said.
The comments followed the release of footage attributed to Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, showing activists with their hands bound and forced to kneel after being detained by Israeli forces in international waters.
Separately, according to reports, organizers of the Global Sumud humanitarian aid flotilla said that all 50 vessels in the convoy were seized by Israeli authorities.
