UN Reports Heavy Israeli Military Activity in Southern Lebanon

(MENAFN) The United Nations has reported what it described as “significant” Israeli air and ground activity across southern Lebanon, including airstrikes, armored movements, and shelling near populated areas, according to reports.

UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said during a press briefing that UN peacekeepers operating in southern Lebanon have continued to observe extensive military activity across their area of operations. He noted multiple Israeli airstrikes near several towns in both western and eastern sectors, according to reports.

Dujarric also said Lebanese authorities reported that 19 people, including three children, were killed in Israeli airstrikes on Tuesday.

He added that UN monitoring recorded 348 incidents attributed to Israeli forces and 23 projectile launches attributed to Hezbollah, with seven interceptions observed in the area of operations.

In addition, he said the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) observed a drone attack—apparently carried out using a first-person-view drone—landing roughly 200 meters from UNIFIL headquarters near Naqoura in Sector West, according to reports.
