US Intelligence Reviews Possible Cuban Response to Military Action

(MENAFN) United States intelligence agencies are reportedly assessing how Cuba might respond in the event of potential US military action, amid rising tensions between the two countries, according to reports.

The analysis, involving the Pentagon and the Defense Intelligence Agency, is said to have begun earlier this month. It reportedly includes monitoring maritime activity such as the movement of a sanctioned Russian-flagged oil tanker headed toward Cuba.

Officials cited in reports said that preliminary planning is also underway to outline possible military options for US leadership. They stressed that such assessments are standard practice in defense planning, used to anticipate both immediate and longer-term consequences of conflict scenarios.

US President Donald Trump downplayed the likelihood of escalation, telling reporters that he did not expect further deterioration in relations and suggesting that additional confrontation was not necessary.

The intelligence review comes alongside a broader tightening of US policy toward Cuba this year, including expanded sanctions and increased pressure on the country’s military and intelligence networks, according to reports.

Separately, some media outlets have reported that Cuba has expanded its drone capabilities, though details regarding sourcing and deployment remain unclear. Cuban authorities have denied posing a military threat to the United States, while warning that any attack on the island could lead to severe consequences.
