(MENAFN) The Israeli military announced on Tuesday evening that one of its officers was killed in southern Lebanon during continued hostilities along the border area, according to reports.

The army statement did not provide further operational details about the incident.

However, according to reports, the officer was killed earlier in the day during an exchange of fire with a Hezbollah fighter in the village of Qawzah, located north of Aita al-Shaab in southern Lebanon. The report also said several additional Israeli soldiers were injured in the same incident, though the number of wounded was not specified.

The development comes amid ongoing military tensions in the region, with continued exchanges of fire reported across the border area.

According to Lebanese official figures cited in reports, the broader escalation since March 2, 2026, has resulted in 3,042 deaths and 9,301 injuries, along with the displacement of more than 1.6 million people.
