Pakistan Says Twenty-Two Militants Killed in Northwest Security Operation
(MENAFN) The Pakistan army says Tuesday that it kills 22 militants during an ongoing security operation in northwest Pakistan over the past 24 hours, according to reports.
The military says the operation begins on May 17 in the North Waziristan tribal region following a series of attacks targeting security forces in the area.
According to reports, the army describes the militants as belonging to what it calls “Indian sponsored Fitna-al-Khwarij,” a term Pakistan uses for the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and affiliated groups.
No immediate response is reported from India, which has previously denied similar allegations.
The military says weapons and ammunition are recovered from the site, adding that those killed were involved in multiple militant activities in the region.
A sanitization operation continues in the area as security forces maintain a cordon, according to the statement.
Reports also note that around two dozen Pakistani security personnel are killed in separate clashes with militants in recent days across northwest and southwest regions.
Pakistan has repeatedly accused Afghanistan of allowing TTP militants to operate from its territory, an allegation denied by Kabul.
