US Navy Jets Crash During Idaho Air Show
(MENAFN) Two US Navy electronic warfare jets were involved in a mid-air collision on Sunday while taking part in the Gunfighter Skies Air Show at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho. All four personnel aboard the aircraft managed to eject safely following the incident.
Footage circulating from the event captures two EA-18G Growler aircraft flying closely together at a low altitude before striking each other in the air. After the impact, the jets appear to lock together momentarily before losing stability and descending in a spiral toward the ground. Moments later, the crew members can be seen ejecting, with four parachutes opening in the sky.
“All four members of the aircrew successfully ejected and are being evaluated by medical personnel,” according to a Navy spokeswoman.
The EA-18G Growler, manufactured by Boeing, is a carrier-based aircraft designed for electronic warfare missions and is based on the F/A-18F Super Hornet platform. The aircraft entered service in the late 2000s as a replacement for the older EA-6B Prowler system developed by Northrop Grumman.
