UK Lawmakers Urge Immediate Action Over Gaza Flotilla Interception

(MENAFN) A group of British parliamentarians has called on the UK government to intervene immediately following what they described as the interception of a Gaza-bound aid flotilla by Israel, according to reports.

In a joint statement, 11 members of the House of Commons and one member of the House of Lords condemned the action in strong terms, saying the Global Sumud Flotilla was a peaceful civilian mission carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza, where they said civilians are facing severe hardship.

“The targeting of humanitarian vessels and civilians, including British nationals, is a grave violation of international law and an unacceptable act of aggression and piracy,” the statement said.

The lawmakers urged the UK government to take urgent steps to protect those aboard the vessels, ensure their safe passage, and press for an end to what they described as unlawful interference with humanitarian deliveries to Gaza.

Signatories to the statement included MPs Adnan Hussain, Iqbal Mohamed, Jeremy Corbyn, Shockat Adam, Richard Burgon, Ayoub Khan, John McDonnell, Imran Hussain, Graham Leadbitter, Simon Opher, Kim Johnson, along with Lord John Hendy of the House of Lords.
