Trump Delays Planned US Military Action Against Iran

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump stated on Monday that the United States has postponed a planned military strike against Iran that was originally scheduled for Tuesday. He explained that the decision came after direct requests from the leaders of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

“I have been asked by the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, and the President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to hold off on our planned military attack of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which was scheduled for tomorrow,” Trump said on his social media platform Truth Social.

According to Trump, leaders from the Gulf region conveyed that “serious negotiations are now taking place” and also showed optimism that a diplomatic resolution could still be achieved. He suggested that ongoing discussions might still lead to an agreement.

The president further noted that any potential deal would strictly bar Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, emphasizing this as a key requirement in any future understanding. He underlined the importance of this condition, stating, "This deal will include, importantly, no nuclear weapons for Iran!"

Trump added that, as a gesture of “respect” toward the Gulf leaders’ appeals, he had directed Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Daniel Caine, and other senior US military officials to pause preparations for the planned operation.

At the same time, he warned that military readiness would continue, saying he had instructed top defense and military leadership to "be prepared to go forward with a full, large scale assault of Iran, on a moment’s notice, in the event that an acceptable deal is not reached."
