Major Putin-Xi Meetings That Strengthened Russia-China Ties
(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to China on May 19-20 is widely expected to further strengthen the growing partnership between Moscow and Beijing. Reports indicate that both countries are preparing to sign nearly 40 agreements and release a joint declaration aimed at expanding comprehensive strategic cooperation.
Since Chinese President Xi Jinping assumed office in 2013, he and Putin have met more than 40 times, with many of those meetings resulting in major political, economic, and strategic agreements that significantly advanced bilateral relations.
Looking back over the past decade, several meetings between the two leaders have played a central role in shaping ties between Russia and China.
Russia was the first foreign destination visited by Xi after becoming president. During discussions with Putin, the leaders addressed a broad range of issues, including trade, technological cooperation, and the conflict in Syria. The two sides also concluded more than 30 agreements related to energy, cultural exchanges, and humanitarian cooperation.
Among the key outcomes were arrangements aimed at increasing oil trade and the adoption of an action plan linked to the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness, Friendship, and Cooperation between the two neighboring powers.
