Cuba Says It Has Right to Defend Itself Against US Threats
(MENAFN) Cuba’s president Miguel Díaz-Canel has said the country holds what he described as the “absolute and legitimate right” to defend itself against any potential US military action, warning of severe consequences in the event of an attack, according to reports.
He wrote on X that threats of military aggression from the United States are already well known and argued that such threats themselves amount to an international crime.
“The threats of military aggression against Cuba by the world's greatest power are well known,” he said. “The threat itself already constitutes an international crime.”
Díaz-Canel also emphasized that Cuba does not pose any threat to other nations and has no plans for aggression, including toward the United States.
He added that while Cuba is already facing what he described as “multidimensional aggression” from Washington, it still retains the right to defend itself, though he said this should not be used as justification for war against the Cuban people.
The comments followed reports, citing unverified US intelligence assessments, that Cuba may have acquired more than 300 military drones and allegedly discussed possible plans involving US targets such as the Guantanamo Bay naval base, American naval vessels, and potentially Key West, Florida.
