Putin, Xi to Focus on Energy Cooperation During Upcoming Beijing Talks

(MENAFN) Energy cooperation is expected to take center stage in upcoming discussions between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping during Putin’s planned visit to Beijing, according to the Kremlin. Talks are set to cover hydrocarbons, gas supplies, and broader energy partnerships, as stated by reports citing Kremlin foreign policy aide Yury Ushakov.

Ushakov said that detailed discussions on the hydrocarbon sector would involve officials directly engaged in ongoing projects.

“Details will not be announced now, but this topic, I believe, will be discussed very thoroughly between the leaders with the participation of the direct representatives involved in all these projects,” he said.

He also pointed to a sharp rise in Russian oil exports to China, noting that shipments grew significantly in the first months of the year.

“In the first quarter of the current year, our oil supplies to Chinese consumers increased by more than 35 percent, reaching 31 million tons,” he said. “Russia is also one of the largest exporters of natural gas to China, including liquefied gas.”
