Hundreds of primary school teachers in Khyber district have been facing severe financial and mental difficulties due to the non-payment of salaries for the past four months.

Teachers recruited through the Parent-Teacher Council (PTC) fund have appealed to the government to release their salaries before Eidul Azha so they can celebrate the festival with their families.

Speaking to TNN, President of the Teachers' Organization in Khyber district, Sharifullah Afridi, said that a total of 609 teachers are serving under the PTC fund in the district, including 109 male and 500 female teachers.

He said that the continued delay in salaries has caused immense hardship for teachers, many of whom have fallen into debt after repeatedly covering transport and household expenses from their own pockets. Married teachers and those with children are facing even greater challenges.

He added that these teachers were recruited to overcome the shortage of staff in primary schools and are performing their duties with dedication, responsibility, and commitment. According to him, school heads are also satisfied with their performance, and the teachers have played an important role in improving educational standards within a short period.

Sharifullah Afridi said that depriving teachers of salaries during a time of rising inflation is not only unfortunate but also an anti-education measure. He warned that when teachers themselves are struggling financially, it directly affects students' education.

Meanwhile, sources in the Deputy Commissioner Khyber's office said that the request for the release of salaries had recently been received from the Education Department and the finance section is currently working on it. According to the sources, the required funds are expected to be released before Eidul Azha.

The president of the teachers' organization urged the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and relevant authorities to immediately release the salaries of teachers recruited through the PTC fund so that educational activities are not affected and teachers can also take part in Eid celebrations with their families.
