Iranian, Saudi FMs Hold Phone Call on US–Iran Talks, Regional Issues
(MENAFN) Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan held a phone conversation on Monday focusing on ongoing diplomatic efforts involving Tehran and Washington, alongside wider regional developments, according to Iran’s Foreign Ministry.
The ministry stated that the two senior diplomats exchanged assessments on current regional dynamics as well as the status of diplomatic initiatives aimed at easing tensions.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said earlier that discussions between Iran and the United States are still continuing indirectly through mediation facilitated by Pakistan.
The report noted that regional tensions have intensified in recent months following military strikes involving the United States and Israel against Iran earlier in the year, which were followed by Iranian retaliatory attacks targeting Israeli territory and positions linked to US allies in the Gulf region.
The escalation also included disruptions linked to the Strait of Hormuz, contributing to broader regional instability.
A ceasefire was reached on April 8 through Pakistani mediation, though subsequent negotiations held in Islamabad did not result in a long-term agreement. US President Donald Trump later extended the ceasefire indefinitely, according to reports.
