Kyrgyz President Urges Support for UN Security Council Bid
(MENAFN) Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov on Monday appealed to member states to support Kyrgyzstan in its bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council ahead of elections scheduled for June 3.
According to a statement issued by the country’s Foreign Ministry, Zhaparov argued that the current structure of the Security Council still lacks balanced representation, particularly for smaller developing nations and landlocked countries. He warned that this imbalance weakens the broader framework of international collective security.
The Kyrgyz leader stressed that improving representation within the UN’s main decision-making body is no longer simply a political matter but a necessary step to reflect today’s global realities.
“The election of Kyrgyzstan would be evidence of the international community’s political will to restore historical justice and to ensure equal rights for all countries to be elected to the leading organ of the United Nations,” he said
Zhaparov also stated that Kyrgyzstan would seek to strengthen the council’s efficiency and transparency while contributing actively to international efforts aimed at confronting global threats and challenges.
He further emphasized that Kyrgyzstan does not belong to any geopolitical bloc and remains outside major confrontational alliances.
