Latvia Moves Toward New Government Talks After Coalition Collapse

(MENAFN) Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics has initiated discussions with all six political parties represented in the national parliament following the resignation of Prime Minister Evika Silina, which came after the ruling coalition fell apart.

The president has already met with party representatives but has not yet made a decision on who might be assigned the responsibility of forming the next government, as stated by reports.

He expressed optimism that a stable governing arrangement could still be established with backing from members of the Saeima, Latvia’s parliament, ahead of the parliamentary elections set for October.

Further discussions with parliamentary groups are expected to continue on Saturday, according to reports.

Silina stepped down on Thursday after one of the coalition partners withdrew its support, an action that ultimately led to the breakdown of the governing alliance.
