Blast in Southern Lebanon Wounds Zionist Troops
(MENAFN) Five Israeli soldiers were injured Sunday in an explosion caused by a roadside bomb in southern Lebanon, according to reports. Two of the wounded were said to be in serious condition.
Reports said a commander from Israel’s elite Maglan unit was seriously hurt after an explosive device detonated during a military mission in southern Lebanon.
Four additional soldiers were also wounded in the incident, including another serviceman reported to be seriously injured.
Earlier, the Israeli military said one soldier suffered severe injuries while an officer was moderately wounded in the overnight explosion. The statement also noted that another officer and a soldier sustained lighter injuries in the same event.
The Israeli army has continued carrying out near-daily strikes inside Lebanon and exchanging fire with Hezbollah despite a ceasefire declared on April 17 that was later prolonged until early July.
According to Lebanese authorities, Israeli military operations in Lebanon since March 2 have left nearly 3,000 people dead, injured over 9,000 others, and forced more than 1.6 million residents from their homes, representing roughly one-fifth of the country’s population.
Meanwhile, drones used by Hezbollah against Israeli troops operating in southern Lebanon have increasingly become a major security concern for Tel Aviv. Reports said Israeli officials now view the drones as among “the most complex and dangerous security challenges” facing the military.
According to reports, Israeli authorities recently convened emergency talks with senior security officials to examine possible responses to the rising threat posed by Hezbollah drone operations amid growing Israeli military casualties.
