US Envoy Addresses Syria’s Role in Regional Diplomacy
(MENAFN) US Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack stated on Sunday that "Syria is now a laboratory for a new regional alignment of diplomacy, integration and hope for the entire region."
Barrack shared the statement in a post on the US social media platform X after holding talks on Saturday with Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa regarding recent political and regional developments in Syria and neighboring countries.
The envoy praised the progress achieved under Sharaa’s administration, noting that, alongside "the dedicated diplomacy" of Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, the country has made "remarkable" strides. He also emphasized that the coming phase could bring "exponential advancement" for Syrians and contribute to long-term regional security and stability.
The discussions were held at the People’s Palace in Damascus. A news agency reported that both parties reviewed “developments in Syria and the region, and ways to enhance economic cooperation between the two countries.”
