Police Make Arrests as Large Operation Separates Rival London Protests
(MENAFN) According to reports, police made 43 arrests on Saturday during a large-scale £4.5 million security operation in central London designed to keep two opposing demonstrations apart.
More than 4,000 officers were deployed across the capital to enforce a “sterile zone” separating a far-right rally linked to Tommy Robinson from a pro-Palestinian protest.
The heavy police presence led to significant disruption across key tourist areas, with visitors reportedly confused by the scale of restrictions around major landmarks.
Nelson’s Column was encircled with metal barriers, while police units, including officers brought in from Wales in riot gear, blocked access between the National Gallery, Pall Mall, and Regent Street. Police vehicles were also stationed along The Mall, stretching from Trafalgar Square toward Buckingham Palace.
Additional security fencing was installed near the Churchill War Rooms, where a tall barrier prevented movement toward Whitehall via the Foreign Office.
Despite the heightened tensions and extensive security measures, there were no major clashes reported between participants in the rival marches, according to reports.
