Two Killed After Small Aircraft Crashes in German Residential Area
(MENAFN) Two people lost their lives after a small aircraft crashed on Saturday in a residential district of the town of Limburgerhof in southwestern Germany, according to reports from local authorities and media outlets.
Police spokesman Thorsten Mischler said initial findings indicated that both individuals aboard the aircraft were killed in the incident. He also stated that there were initially no confirmed reports of residents being injured.
However, according to reports, at least one additional person may have suffered injuries during the crash.
The aircraft reportedly exploded in mid-air at around 11:30 a.m. local time before coming down near homes on the outskirts of the town. Witnesses cited in reports said the plane appeared to graze a residential building before crashing.
Authorities stated that debris from the aircraft was scattered across a wide area surrounding the crash site.
Emergency personnel and large numbers of police officers were deployed to the area, while officials established a broad security perimeter around the scene.
“The crash site has been cordoned off over a wide area,” the police spokesperson said.
Investigators have launched an inquiry into the cause of the crash, and a police helicopter was reportedly deployed to collect aerial images as part of the investigation.
