New Zealand Helicopter Crash Leaves Two Dead in Southern Alps
(MENAFN) Two people lost their lives Sunday morning after a helicopter crashed in the Southern Alps region of New Zealand, according to reports.
Emergency responders were notified of the accident on the South Island at around 9:50 a.m. local time, authorities said. The helicopter involved was reportedly a charter flight transporting members of a hunting group.
Officials confirmed that the two victims were the only individuals onboard the aircraft when it went down in Mount Aspiring National Park.
According to reports, three other members of the hunting party were later found safely on the ground and escorted to safety.
Authorities have opened an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
