Israeli Soldier Gets Killed in Southern Lebanon
(MENAFN) The Israeli military declared on Friday that one of its servicemen had lost his life in southern Lebanon. According to the army’s announcement, 20-year-old Staff Sergeant Negev Dagan, a member of the Golani Brigade, was hit during Hezbollah mortar shelling.
Hezbollah revealed on Thursday that it had carried out 13 separate operations targeting Israeli soldiers, military vehicles, and defense sites across southern Lebanon. The group stated that these actions were conducted in retaliation for ongoing Israeli ceasefire breaches and assaults on Lebanese villages.
At the same time, three individuals were reported dead following Israeli air raids in southern Lebanon on Thursday. The strikes coincided with a fresh round of US-mediated negotiations between Lebanon and Israel taking place in Washington, DC.
Since March 2, Israeli military operations in Lebanon have resulted in the deaths of more than 2,896 people, while over 8,824 others have sustained injuries and upwards of 1.6 million residents have been displaced, representing nearly one-fifth of Lebanon’s population, according to Lebanese authorities.
Despite a ceasefire that came into force on April 17 and was subsequently prolonged until May 17, the Israeli army has continued launching daily attacks in Lebanon alongside ongoing exchanges of fire with Hezbollah.
