UK Agency Reports Vessel Seized Near UAE, Taken Toward Iranian Waters
(MENAFN) A vessel has been seized off the coast of the United Arab Emirates and is reportedly being taken toward Iranian territorial waters, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), as cited in reports.
The agency said it received a report of an incident around 38 nautical miles northeast of Fujairah, where a ship was reportedly boarded while at anchor by what were described as unauthorized personnel.
As stated by reports, the vessel’s security officer indicated that it had been taken over and was heading toward Iranian waters. The identity of the ship and those involved has not yet been confirmed.
UKMTO said it is continuing to investigate the incident and has advised vessels operating in the area to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
The development comes amid heightened regional maritime tensions, with shipping routes in and around the Strait of Hormuz facing increased security concerns due to ongoing geopolitical instability affecting Gulf waters.
