India Urges BRICS to Act as Stabilizing Force Amid Global Conflicts
(MENAFN) India has said there is a “growing expectation” that BRICS will take on a stronger constructive and stabilizing role in global affairs, as New Delhi hosts foreign ministers from the bloc amid ongoing geopolitical tensions, according to reports.
At the opening of the meeting, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said the gathering is taking place during a period of significant global instability marked by multiple conflicts, economic uncertainty, and disruptions across trade, technology, and climate systems.
As stated by reports, he noted, *“there is a growing expectation,”* particularly among emerging and developing economies, that BRICS can help provide a stabilizing influence in international relations.
He emphasized that peace and security remain central to the global order, adding that recent conflicts highlight the importance of diplomacy, dialogue, and cooperation, including efforts to strengthen counterterrorism coordination.
The BRICS meeting brings together foreign ministers and senior representatives from its 11 members, including major emerging economies such as Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and newer members like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Iran.
According to reports, participants are expected to discuss a range of global and regional issues during the two-day gathering.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is not attending this session, as Beijing is currently hosting US President Donald Trump for separate high-level talks with President Xi Jinping.
