Football Stars Saviola, Salgado Visit Petra

Amman, May 14 (Petra) -- Former Argentine football star Javier Saviola and former Real Madrid player Michel Salgado visited the ancient city of Petra on Wednesday, as part of a tour in Jordan, accompanied by former Jordan national team player Baha'a Abdulrahman.

Representing Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) Chairman, Commissioner for the Petra Archaeological Park and Tourism Yazan Mahadin, received the delegation and cast light on the ancient city's historical, archaeological and tourism significance, as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Mahadin also noted efforts to preserve the city's heritage and strengthen its position on the global tourism map.

The guests were also presented with souvenirs inspired by Petra's heritage.

During the visit, Saviola expressed admiration for Petra, describing it as "one of the most impressive historical sites" he has visited.

Salgado, who was visiting Petra for the third time, praised the tourist atmosphere, organization and hospitality, saying Petra is a "unique global destination that combines history, culture and nature." The visit comes as part of PDTRA 's efforts to attract international sports, artistic and media figures to promote the Rose City and strengthen its tourism presence globally.
